Diary
c 1898

Selected entries from Clara Barton’s Spanish American War diary. A note in the flyleaf states that it is, “The fourth note book on Cuba—but only commenced after the type written diary was commenced by Miss Grave about July or July [18]98.”  There are entries for most days, except for September.  Charts on tides, postage rates, city populations, lunar cycles, and cash accounts were noted. This was the first time that the American Red Cross provided assistance to American armed forces and civilians during wartime.
