Music was part of life at the Sandburgs' home and usually it was Carl Sandburg who was the motivation. As a family, they sang together often, usually accompanied by his guitar and his low baritone voice. The warbled melodies of these songs halted when he was on his lecture tours and the house seemed empty in his absence.
