In November 1933, a Civilian Conservation Corps camp (CCC Camp 815) was established in Frijoles Canyon at Bandelier National Monument to construct long needed visitor facilities. The road and 31 Pueblo Revival style stone buildings that the enrollees built now comprise the National Park Service’s largest collection of CCC structures. They stand as a monument to the memory of young men who built them, and to their skills as builders and artists. The photos here show the transformation, from start to finish, that took place in Frijoles Canyon as the CCC completed their work over the next 8 years.
