Versions of the original Savage image were created by numerous artists and sold and distributed across the country. The oil on canvas painting is at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. As the boy standing next to Washington, Custis had unprecedented celebrity as the first presidential son (actually step-grandson) in American history.
