Examples of clubs, billyjacks, and nightsticks that may have been used at Alcatraz either during its days as a military prison or a civilian penitentiary. None of these clubs were issued by prison administration to correctional officers. In fact, federal prison regulations prohibited officers from carrying clubs. The Bureau of Prisons removed such clubs from its facilities by the mid-1930s, and disciplined officers who attempted to carry them.
This "Sap billyjack" is leaded at one end. It is marked with "Buckheimer, made since 1884, Frederick, MD" & "USP Alcatraz."
