FREDERICK, MD – Monocacy National Battlefield announced a record-breaking increase in visitation during the past year. In 2017, the park saw more than 100,000 visits – an increase of nearly 20,000 more than in 2016.

“We are excited that more people are coming to park, not only to learn about the battle, but also to explore nature by hiking our trails, kayaking the river to or take part of a ranger led program,” said park superintendent Chris Stubbs. “We are committed to improving our trail system and to building a non-motorized boat launch which will expand access throughout the park while also opening new visitor opportunities.”

National parks are vital to the economic health of the communities in which they are located. For example, in 2016, the last year for which data is available, visitors to national parks spent over $18.4 billion in their gateway communities. Of that, visitors to Monocacy National Battlefield contributed $7.3 million to the Frederick area.
