Cactus Flat, SD – On July 8th, 2017, Minuteman Missile National Historic Site is honored host screenings of the short documentary film, “The Greatest Weapon Ever Used” from award winning filmmaker, artist, and South Dakota native John Mollison. Giving entry into the life of the missile combat crews and their service in the American land based ICBM fields of the Great Plains, the movie connects past and present with interviews with Major General Robert Parker, USAF (ret) and current missileers serving alerts to fulfill the Air Force’s continuing deterrent mission.
“The Greatest Weapon Ever Used” will be shown at the park visitor center free to the visiting public at 10:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, and 2:00pm, with Mr. Mollison giving an introductory talk at the start of the 11:00 and 1:00 showings.Minuteman Missile National Historic Site's headquarters and visitor center is located off of exit 131, Interstate 90. The park consists of three sites along a fifteen mile stretch of Interstate 90 in Western South Dakota. Authorized by Congress in 1999, Minuteman Missile National Historic Site preserves components of the Minuteman II intercontinental ballistic missile system, interpreting the deterrent value of the land-based portion of America's nuclear defense during the Cold War era and commemorating the people and events associated with this recent period of American history. The park is open daily 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
