The National Park Service will waive entrance fees at all units on Tuesday, June 21 to encourage Americans to visit their national parks. Mesa Verde will waive entrance fees on that day to help celebrate the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere and the official start of summer.

Mesa Verde National Park Superintendent Cliff Spencer said, "I encourage everyone to take advantage of this free admission. What better way to kick off the summer than to visit Mesa Verde and enjoy your national parks."

There are 394 national park units located across the country in 49 states; 147 of them charge entry fees ranging from $3 to $25. There are an additional 247 parks that do not have entrance fees.  Mesa Verde's $15 entry fee will be waived Tuesday, June 21. Additional dates that entry fees will be waived at all National Park Service units are:  National Public Lands Day (September 24) and the weekend of Veterans Day (November 11-13).

In conjunction with this fee free day, Mesa Verde Museum Association will offer special in-park promotions in the Visitor Center and Museum stores. At the Visitor Center store, the special is a free "Treasures of the Past" DVD with any purchase of $30 or more. At the Museum store, the special is a free "1926 Re-Excavation of Step House" booklet with any purchase of $20 or more.

The entrance fee waiver does not include other fees collected in advance or by contractors—such as fees charged for camping, reservations, tours and concession services. The National Park Service website provides information to help the public plan their park adventures at
