New Visitor Service
As part of its continuing efforts to enhance visitor services, Mesa Verde National Park will begin selling tour tickets at the Colorado Welcome Center (CWC) in Cortez this spring. Tickets will be sold up to two days in advance of each tour. Tickets will not be sold at the CWC on the day of a tour.
Tour tickets are $3.00 per person, per site, and will be sold for Cliff Palace, Balcony House, and Long House, the park’s popular ranger-led activities. Ticket sales will begin on Monday, May 24 and continue through Saturday, November 6, 2010. The CWC is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. From June 1 through August 31, it will be open extended hours, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Mesa Verde National Park is able to offer this service through the assistance of its park partner, the Mesa Verde Museum Association (MVMA). “We are pleased to introduce this pilot program for pre-sale of tour tickets,” stated Bill Nelligan, Acting Superintendent. “We are hoping local residents and visitors staying in local establishments take advantage of this opportunity. This will also help reduce the long ticket lines at Far View Visitor Center.”
Cliff Palace, Balcony House, and Long House tour tickets may still be purchased on the same day or up to two days in advance of the tours at the Far View Visitor Center in Mesa Verde National Park. The Visitor Center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. From May 30 through September 6, the Visitor Center will be open extended hours, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tour tickets are $3.00 per person, per site. Tour tickets may also be purchased at the Morefield Ranger Station, at the entrance to Morefield Campground, beginning May 30th through Labor Day, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Mesa Verde Museum Association is a private, nonprofit organization, authorized by Congress and established for the park in 1930. Through an active publishing program, the operation of retail bookstores in Mesa Verde National Park and in the Colorado Welcome Center in Cortez, the Mesa Verde Institute, and a membership program, MVMA provides educational and interpretive experiences that enhance public understanding of the valuable cultural and natural resources at Mesa Verde. Activities of the Association normally support agency educational or research objectives that could not otherwise be provided by regular government funding.
