Taiko drumming is a tradional part of Pilgrimage. NPS Photo.Join us for a weekend of special events in conjunction with the Manzanar Committee's 44th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage on Saturday, April 27.

On Friday, April 26, Eastern California Museum in Independence hosts a public reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The museum features exhibits on Manzanar and other local history. It Is located on the West side of Independence, six miles north of Manzanar, and open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Manzanar Committee's 44th annual Pilgrimage takes place at the Manzanar Cemetery on Saturday, April 27th from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. The pilgrimage includes taiko drummers, speakers, music, an interfaith religious service, and traditional Japanese ondo-style dancing. The cemetery is located at the west side of the site, about half way around the auto tour road.

The Manzanar at Dusk "MADness" program takes place Saturday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. in Lone Pine at the Lone Pine High School Auditorium. The program will offer participants opportunities to interact with former internees and each other.

Special events taking place inside the Interpretive Center include a Junior Ranger program and the Annual Henry Fukuhara Art Show and Sale, and more

All programs and special exhibits are free and open to the public
