(MAMMOTH CAVE, Kentucky - June 29, 2012) "Going to the Fourth" was once the phrase used to describe the reunion of families and friends that occurred on July 4th every year at Mammoth Cave. The Mammoth Cave National Park Association, the national park and the Mammoth Cave Hotel continue the tradition with music, picnicking, and family stories of the land before it was a park.
Music is scheduled from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the park amphitheater. Centerfire, Arthur Hatfield & Buck Creek, and Miss Mammoth Cave Area Mira Baker will perform gospel and bluegrass music.
The Hotel's Rotunda Room will be open for family genealogy and history from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Land maps, land purchase records, and cemetery records will be available. Everyone is encouraged to bring Mammoth Cave mementos, family photos and stories to share.
"Going to the Fourth" is sponsored by LHI Lighting, Inc. and the Friends of Mammoth Cave National Park.
