(MAMMOTH CAVE NATIONAL PARK – November 27, 2006) December marks the end of the season for certain services at Mammoth Cave National Park:  Mammoth Cave Campground, Maple Springs Group Campground, the picnic area, and the river ferry service at Houchins Ferry.

The campgrounds and picnic area will close December 1; the ferry boat at Houchins Ferry will operate through Saturday, December 2, and close on December 3.  All will reopen in March 2007.

“Dennison Ferry day use area will remain open through the winter months,” said  Superintendent Patrick Reed.  “And cold-weather campers are welcome at the Houchins Ferry Campground year round, where twelve primitive sites are available, and payment is on the honor system.”

Dennison Ferry (a historic ferry site on the river) is a popular canoe launch onto Green River, and has a picnic area, too.  Picnic tables are also available at Sloan’s Crossing Pond.  Backcountry campsites north of Green River are open year round.

Green River Ferry continues in daily operation year round, 6:00 a.m. to 9:55 p.m. Central Time.
