The Underground Railroad in Washington, D.C.
Abraham Lincoln is often remembered as "The Great Emancipator" for his efforts to stamp out slavery by the end of the Civil War. Before that extension of freedom to all, some slaves found freedom only by escaping. Many found help along the way.
