UPCOMING EVENTS AT LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA MAY 9 TO 31

BOULDER CITY, NEV. – The following events are happening at Lake Mead National Recreation Area May 9 to 31.

Sunset Program: Bats - Friend or Foe, May 9

Join a ranger at 7 p.m. at the Boulder Beach Campground Amphitheater to learn about bat myths and how the flying mammals benefit the planet. Call 702-293-8990 for more information.

Wings and Wildlife, May 9

Join rangers in Laughlin at the annual Wings and Wildlife festival 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 9 at Pyramid Canyon Park and Trails. Activities include birdhouse painting, wildlife treasure hunt, kite flying, live animals, bird watching, horse activities and more.

Triathlon: Your Cause Sports Triathlon, May 9

Around 600 athletes will be participating in the Tri - Du - Run for Your Causerace at Lake Mead National Recreation Area May 9.The triathlon will begin with a swim at Boulder Beach, followed by a bike course along Lakeshore and Northshore roads and a run on the River Mountains Loop Trail.  Drivers should use caution when passing cyclists. Cyclists are reminded that they must bike in single file on the roadways. Cycling abreast is not permitted within Lake Mead NRA. Ranger Chat: The Mojave Desert: A Magical Land, May 9 and 10

Learn about the animals and plants that call this vibrant desert home during a ranger chat at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 9 and 10. From the desert bighorn sheep found in the rugged mountains to the smallest beavertail cactus, life is abundant and thriving in what many think is a barren landscape. Ranger Chat: Night Sky Constellation Tour, May 16

Join the Lake Mead Institute at the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 7 p.m. May 16 to learn about constellations and the stories behind the stars. No moon will be visible, making it the perfect time to view Lake Mead’s dark night skies while walking along the Historic Railroad Trail stargazing. Sunset Program: Sunset Yoga, May 16

Join a ranger at 7 p.m. at Rocky Point Overlook for sunset yoga. Connect with nature and view Lake Mead while doing yoga poses and light stretching. For practitioners at all levels, the flow will include an opening sequence dedicated to loosening muscles and warming up the body, followed by a series of balancing poses to increase strength and ending with a restorative and meditative session to bring body and nature elements together. Ranger Chat: Park Invaders: Non-Native Species, May 23 and 24

Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 23 and 24 to learn about the story of the non-native species that have invaded the recreation area and what scientists are doing to protect Lake Mead NRA and keep these species from overwhelming the park. Ranger Chat: Wingspan Myths, May 30 and 31

Stop by the Lake Mead Visitor Center at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 30 and 31 to learn about the wingspans of a variety of desert birds. Call 702-293-8990 for more information.
