At about 5p.m., tonight (Thursday, June 14), the National Park Service Dispatch Center received an emergency call about an injured 25-year-old male. The victim had been injured while water skiing in the Boulder Basin area of Lake Mead. At this time, we believe no other vessels were involved in the accident. The victim was skiing at a high rate of speed and apparently impacted the water.

National Park Service Rangers, Nevada Department of Wildlife Wardens, and Mercy Air 11 responded. NPS Rangers attempted life-saving measures on the young man. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on scene.

NPS Rangers are investigating the accident. This is all we know at this time, an update will be sent when more information is known. The Clark County Coroner will determine the cause of death. This is the 12th fatality of the year at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
