2:00 p.m. update:
Investigators confirmed the owner of the boat (that is believed to be where the fire started this morning) was not on the vessel. At this time, investigators believe no one was injured. The preliminary damage estimate from the concessioner is about $1 million. All boat owners impacted by the fire have been contacted. The small finger section of one of the docks of the Lake Mead Marina was involved in this fire. This marina was moved in February 2008 from Boulder Harbor to its new location next to Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina. Both marinas are now operated by Las Vegas Boat Harbor Inc.
This small isolated fire that occurred this morning will not in anyway affect public access to the rest of the marina operations. The marinas remain open for business. The services offered at Las Vegas Boat Harbor include: boat rentals, a store, fuel dock, restaurant, meeting area, and courtesy docks. The public boat launch ramp next to the marina, Hemenway Harbor Launch ramp is open to the public.
At about 6:30 a.m. this morning, employees of the Las Vegas Boat Harbor Marina observed a fire on the Lake Mead Marina portion of their 1,350-slip marina. The fire was isolated on a part of the Spyglass portion of the B-Dock. Boats in slips 78, 79, and 80 were completely destroyed by the fire.Additionally, two other boats on that finger of the dock were damaged (slip numbers not yet available).
At this time, the exact cause of the fire is unknown. At this time, NPS Rangers do not believe anyone was injured. The fire is still under investigation and updates will be sent when more information becomes available.
The Las Vegas Boat Harbor concession employees successfully contained the blaze with NPS Rangers and fire personnel.
This is all we know at this time. Additional updates will be sent via email.
