This contest is made possible through the National Park Service's partnership with Alaska Geographic who operates bookstores on public lands statewide. Alaska Geographic donates a portion of revenues to parks to support programs, events, and materials that enhance the public's understanding and conservation of Alaska's natural, cultural and historical resources.

The National Park Service and Alaska Geographic Announce "Wild Wonders of Lake Clark" 2019 Photo Contest
With majestic wildlife and seemingly endless vistas, Lake Clark is a land as vast as your sense of adventure. What have you encountered on your Lake Clark journey? Here’s your chance to show us.


There will be four winners:
  • 3 People's Choice Awards
  • 1 Staff Favorite
Winners will receive:
  • A copy of each winning photograph will be printed on stretched canvas and displayed at the park visitor center along with a small placard introducing the photographer. After the visitor center closes for the winter, the canvas pieces will be shipped to the winners.
  • Each winning photo will also be featured as Lake Clark National Park and Preserve's Facebook cover photo for one month.
How to Participate
Between February 4th and February 15th, 2019, enter the contest by posting your photos on Instagram with the hashtag #LACLwildwonders and tagging the photo’s location. Photos can also be e-mailed or mailed to the addresses included below.

On February 19th, ten finalists will be chosen by judges at Lake Clark National Park and Preserve and will be posted on Lake Clark’s Instagram account (@LakeClarkNPS).

The public will then be invited to vote for their favorites of the ten finalists by the liking the post. The three submissions recieving the highest number of likes by 11:59pm AKST on February 24th, 2019, plus one "staff favorite", will be declared winners.

The story you submit with your photo is used on the artist placard that is displayed with each winning photograph in the visitor center.


  1. The contest is limited to photos taken in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve.
  2. Maximum 4 entries per person.
  3. Please include the location that the photo was taken, and a brief (30 - 50 words) story you would like to share about the photo. If not included in the original post, you will be asked for this information upon being declared a winner.
  4. The image must be your own and without watermarks of any kind.
  5. All photographs that include people whose faces can be recognized must also submit a Likeness Form to be signed by each individual in the photograph upon being declared a winner. This does not grant the park perpetual use of the photo.
  6. Park visitors, local residents, park partners, CUA employees, SCA interns, and volunteers are encouraged to submit. The contest is not open to Lake Clark NPS employees.
  7. All images must be posted by Friday February 15, 2019 to be eligible.
  8. You may also submit photos by e-mailing them to (Attachments up to 25 mb only), or burn them to a CD or zip drive and mail with the information requested above to: Lake Clark National Park & Preserve, Attn: Photo Contest, 240 W. 5th Avenue, Anchorage, AK 99501
  9. By submitting a photo, the contestant agrees to provide the park with a high quality file of the image (for prize printing purposes only) and the photographer’s information upon being declared a winner.
