Smoking Outside is Prohibited

Where are the Restrictions?
On all National Park Service administered lands within John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, smoking is prohibited except while inside a closed vehicle unless a subsequent regulation change is issued before that date. On October 1, 2017 smoking restrictions will return to those identified in the Superintendent’s Compendium signed on 1/30/2017.

Why are there Restrictions?
The smoking restriction is necessary for public safety and resource protection. Fire danger level is extreme as temperatures rise and fuels are drying.
