Past Spring in the Swamp Events

Although our Spring in the Swamp event is over for this year, you can learn about the ways the park celebrated in recent years.

Daily Event Schedule for 2022:

Parking and restrooms were available at the Barataria Preserve Visitor Center. There was limited parking at Bayou Coquille Trailhead. Visitors could walk the Visitor Center Trail, Palmetto Trail, and Bayou Coquille Trail (3 miles total roundtrip) to experience all that Spring in the Swamp has to offer!

  • Visitor Center was open 9:30am-4:30pm - parking lots closed at 5pm!

  • Ranger-led Canoe Treks

    • Visitors learned canoeing basics and safety, and they saw the resource from a different perspective. Ages 10 and up. Reservations were required.
  • Informational and Activity Tables

    • Touch table
    • Louisiana Iris Conservation Initiative
    • Louisiana Master Naturalists
    • Greater New Orleans Interfaith Climate Coalition
  • Dip-netting

    • Visitors saw what lives in the water! How are they all important to our ecosystem? All ages were welcomed.
  • Water Quality Monitoring

    • What can water tell us about climate patterns? Effects of hurricanes? Visitors found out that and more. All ages were welcomed.

  • Frogwatch

    • The swamp transforms after dark! Visitors walked and listened to the sounds it had to share and helped our citizen scientists identify and survey different frogs and toads.
