Jewel Cave National Monument invites visitors of all ages to join in the celebration of the 100th birthday of the National Park Service. With special events across the country and free admission to all 412 national parks from August 25 - 28, the Monument is encouraging everyone to #FindYourPark / #EncuentraTuParque for the Centennial.

Jewel Cave is sharing the excitement with a variety of activities planned for the week of the Centennial. President Theodore Roosevelt will be at the Monument for photos, autographs, and a presentation on Monday afternoon, August 22 at the visitor center. Founders Day, Thursday, August 25, will feature birthday cake, a time capsule ceremony, and additional visitor programs. The Journey Museum of nearby Rapid City will be joining us on Friday, August 26 at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for their program entitled "The Black Hills Journey Starts Here."  Saturday, August 27 is Junior Ranger Day at the Monument, beginning at 10 a.m. with activities focusing on wildlife in the Black Hills.

Superintendent Bonnie Schwartz states, "The NPS Centennial has attracted a lot of attention for the Monument and our surrounding park sites this year. Although many vacationers are still in the area taking in the sights, we hope our slate of Centennial activities and special programs will entice our local community residents to visit Jewel Cave."

Park entrance fees are waived nationwide from August 25 - 28 to encourage everyone to celebrate the 100th birthday of the National Park Service. Jewel Cave will be waiving its cave tour fees for the Scenic and Historic Lantern Tours, as well as the Discovery Talks during the fee free dates. On each date, the first tour starts at 9:00 a.m. and the last cave activity is at 4:25 p.m.
