Jewel Cave is offering guided cave tours during the upcoming holiday weekends, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, December 22, 23, 24, 29, 30, and 31. Each day offers three Scenic Tours at 10 a.m., 12:40 p.m., and 2:40 p.m. One 20-minute Discovery Talk is available each day at 9:05 a.m. for those wanting an accessible tour option or shorter cave experience.

On Monday, January 1, park rangers are leading snowshoe hikes at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. In celebration of the New Year, these First Day Hikes are being offered to showcase the ponderosa pine forest during the winter season. They also expose visitors to a Healthy Parks Healthy People program experience with the National Park Service. If snowy conditions are not available, dry hikes will take place at the same times on the one-quarter-mile Roof Trail.

Superintendent Bonnie Schwartz states, “The winter season is a great time to visit Jewel Cave. Between a weekend cave tour with family and friends or snowshoeing on January 1, we hope that these program options get people out and about in their public lands.” Gearing up for the holidays, visitors are advised that the Monument will be closed on Tuesday, December 19 for maintenance within the visitor center. The Monument will also be closed on Christmas Day, December 25.

Increased visitation often occurs during the holidays. Interested visitors are encouraged to secure advance tour tickets online by visiting www.blackhillsvacations.com. Online ticket sales are available 24 hours each day. The call center is also open during the winter months at (844) 245-6179, with the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. NOTE: Advanced ticket sales can be made for dates that are over 48 hours in advance and up to 90 days into the future.
