Things To Do During Your Visit

The Visitor Center and Garfield Home are open Fridays-Saturdays-Sundays from November 1 - April 30, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guided tours of the Garfield home are scheduled throughout the day. Self-guided options include the Visitor Center and grounds. The grounds are open daily 8:30am-4:30pm.

The Visitor Center includes a 20 minute site film, museum exhibits on the life of James Garfield, and a bookstore. Visitors may also enjoy two cell phone tours on the grounds.

There are no fees to enter the Visitor Center or take the guided house tour. Reservations are required for groups of 6 or more. Schools and groups may tour the site during the week, with a reservation.

In the Garfield Home
Visitors may tour the Garfield home with a ranger or volunteer. Tours are approximately 45 minutes, and take you through the multi-leveled home. The last tour of the day generally occurs in the 3pm hour; call the morning of a visit for tour times.

In the Visitor Center
The theatre shows an 18 minute biographical film on President Garfield's life on demand. Visitors may self-guide through the interpretive exhibits. Passport stamps, Junior Ranger books, B.A.R.K Ranger books, and several brochures are available here.

On the Grounds
Walk the loop path while listening to our cell phone tours. There are two tours that can be done at your leisure. Children can earn their James A. Garfield National Historic Site Junior Ranger badge! Books can be picked up at the Front Desk in the Visitor Center.

Do you have a dog traveling with you? They can become a James A. Garfield B.A.R.K Ranger! Books can be picked up at the Front Desk in the Visitor Center or downloaded by scanning the QR code found outside.
