James A. Garfield National Historic Site Announces Expanded Summer Hours for 2015

James A. Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor is pleased to announce its operating hours for summer 2015.These hours will begin Memorial Day weekend and continue through Labor Day.

Beginning Memorial Day weekend, the site will be open to the public 10 a.m.-5 p.m. seven days per week.The site will be open on all federal holidays this summer: Memorial Day (Monday, May 25);Fourth of July (Saturday, July 4);and Labor Day (Monday, September 7).

The last few years, the site has been closed on Sundays and Mondays during the summer season.This year will mark the first time since 2012 that James A. Garfield National Historic Site has been open seven days per week.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be able to open the site back up on Sundays and Mondays in the summertime this year," said Acting Site Manager Skaidra Kempkowski."Getting the house project completed and opening up seven days per week allows us to fulfill our most basic mission: facilitating public visitation to James A. Garfield National Historic Site."

The Garfield home has been closed to the public since last September due to installation of a new geothermal heating and cooling system.The site's staff plans to re-open the house to public tours on Tuesday, May 12 and hold a grand re-opening ceremony on Saturday, May 23.

From now until May 12, the site is open only on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.(House tours remain unavailable until May 12.)It will be open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. May 12-23, and then begin its seven-days-per-week schedule as of Sunday, May 24.

James A. Garfield National Historic Site is located at 8095 Mentor Avenue (U.S. 20) in Mentor, Ohio, approximately 25 miles east of Cleveland.
