Special Exhibit! Lucretia's Dresses

Seven of First Lady Lucretia Garfield's dresses and some of her accessories are displayed in rooms throughout the Garfield home. See them in the rooms she loved, and reflect on the strength, dignity and wisdom of the woman who wore them.
We have two special events to celebrate Mrs. Garfield this summer:
Becoming Lucretia: Farm Girl to First Lady to Family Matriarch
Picture the woman who hand-wrote her own wedding invitations (including one to her future husband) becoming the nation's hostess! Discover Lucretia Garfield's sense of style and "faultless taste." and how she rose up to every occasion. The tour includes a special behind-the-ropes look at Lucretia's personal possessions- fashions, furnishings, photographs and mementos.
Sundays: May 28, June 25 and July 23 at 10 a.m.
Must be 16 or older. Reservations are required- call (440) 255-8722.
Cost is $15 per person.
Dressing Lucretia Garfield
As part of our ongoing Lucretia's Dresses temporary exhibit, join Patty Edmond, Curator of Costume and Textiles at the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland, for an exploration of Lucretia Garfield's style! She will be sharing style tips from the 1880's and also discuss the significance of First Ladies' fashions. Discover what it took to create the striking bustled silhouette with a demonstration using period undergarments from the WRHS collection. Free of charge.
