The Mount Franklin Fire is now 100% contained. Minnesota wildland fire crews departed on 8/21/2022. An Incident Commander from the Hiawatha National Forest continues to monitor the burn area. All effected trails, campgrounds, and docks are open. Effected cross country camping zones remain closed.
Hazards may still exist. If hiking through the burn area, stay on the trail for your safety. Rock cairns are in place on the Mount Franklin Trail to guide hikers through the burn area. Review the Mt Franklin Fire FAQ for more information.

Fire Management Strategy: Suppress Cause: The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Investigators are seeking information about an illegal fire and associated camp on the Mount Franklin Trail the evening of August 12 and into the morning of August 13.
