The National Monument site is located in a gulch filled with dense vegetation and surrounded by private land. The NPS access route into the gulch involves a hike of several miles along an unmaintained trail with rutted terrain, tall guinea grass, stinging insects, old barbed wire fencing and eroded embankments all posing substantial safety hazards. Until facilities or infrastructure are developed, the NPS will keep the site closed in the interest of visitor health and safety. |
