Holiday Hours Announced at Homestead National Monument of America

Homestead National Monument of America's visitor centers will be closed on the following fall/winter holidays:Thursday November 26, 2015Friday December 25, 2015; and Friday January 1, 2016. Homestead National Monument of America will remain open all other days during the holiday season for those who wish to explore the Homestead Heritage and Education Centers, view Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures and National Parks in Quilts displays, or shop for unique gifts. 

The grounds and parking lots are open from dawn to dusk every day, including holidays when facilities are closed. All are welcome to park at either building and enjoy walking or skiing the trails. 

Junior Ranger fun can be had at Homestead over Thanksgiving weekend,November 27 –29, 2015! Kids and their families are encouraged to visit and become Junior Rangers for Homestead National Monument of America. The Junior Ranger program is a fun, self-guided way to learn about natural and cultural history of this unique place. Ask for a Junior Ranger booklet at either visitor center, fill out the pages as you visit the monument, and earn a Junior Park Ranger badge! In addition, special Junior Ranger hikes will be offered on Saturday, November 28, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.–meet the ranger at the Education Center.

Visit the Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures, Friday November 27, 2015 through Monday January 4, 2016. Exhibits on the winter and holiday traditions of various Great Plains ethnic and cultural groups are on display at both the Heritage Center and Education Center. OnSunday November 29, 2 the Education Center, enjoy music in German and English languages by the Men's Choir from the German-American Society of Omaha.  "We invite everyone to visit before the New Year to see the festive Winter Festival displays. They're sure to share some world traditions and get you into the holiday spirit!" stated Superintendent Mark Engler.

Help Homestead celebrate the Centennial of the National Park Service by visitingNational Parks in Quilts, a quilt exhibition at Homestead's Education CenterDecember 1 through December 27, 2015. Created by fiber artists from the Lincoln/Omaha area, 13 quilts will be on display, each inspired by a different National Park Service site.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska and 45 miles south of Lincoln. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.  Admission is free of charge.
