In celebration of the Centennial of the National Park Service, Homestead National Monument of America invites you to Catherland the musical!  Two programs will be offered at Homestead’s Education Center: Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm, and Monday April 25, 2016 from 10 a.m. – noon. The Monday showing will be followed by workshop geared toward high school students, but everyone is welcome. The workshop will be led by playwright Becky Boesen and will cover script and lyric writing.

Catherland tells the story of Susan, an emerging writer living the life of her dreams, complete with an adoring husband and an almost finished first novel. When tragedy strikes and the trajectory of her life changes, she must decide how to move forward. Searching for answers, she flees to Red Cloud, Nebraska, the childhood home of novelist Willa Cather. Guided by her curiosity and the presence of a mysterious guest, Susan discovers that life is more about beginnings than endings. A lesson in embracing the unexpected, CATHERLAND reminds us that "where there is great love, there are always miracles.

Written by Nebraska playwright Becky Bosen and composer David Von Kampen, Catherland is billed as “a new Nebraska ghost musical.” Catherland in-concert is an impactful work-in-progress, which takes a minimalist approach to staging, focusing on storytelling through song.

Catherland is supported by the Nebraska Arts Council and Nebraska Cultural Endowment, Friends of Lied, and the Rural Futures Institute at the University of Nebraska.
