Experience Holidays at a One Room School
at Homestead National Monument of America
What were children doing in the Freeman School leading up to Christmas? They were making ornaments. On Saturday, December 7, 2013, at2 p.m, make Pioneer Era ornaments at the Freeman School at Homestead National Monument of America. Enjoy a story read by a Park Ranger. Don't miss this free event that is sure to get you in the Holiday spirit.
Homesteaders used items around the house to decorate their tree. Learn some of the items used to decorate. Some of the ornaments include salt dough ornaments, paper chains, Danish woven baskets, and native plant cornicopias.
"We hope you will include the monument in your Holiday plans and enjoy this program at the Freeman School", stated Superintendent Mark Engler.
