2018 Program Schedule of events released at
Homestead National Monument of America


Homestead National Monument of America has released its program activities schedule for 2018. A listing of major events can be found below, while the full list of 2018 activities can be found online at www.nps.gov/home or on Homestead’s Facebook page (@HomesteadNM). The schedules are also available for pick-up in person at either the Homestead Heritage or Homestead Education Centers. 

Featured events for the 2018 season include but are not limited to:                                                

·         Heartland Storytelling Festival: March 22-23, 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Gather around for renowned storytellers telling their tales of history and adventure in March.

·         The 20th Tallgrass Prairie Fiddle Festival: Saturday 26, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Returning in May for its 20th anniversary; individuals of all ages can watch and compete in acoustic music competitions with thousands of dollars in prizes for the winners. The event begins at 10:00 a.m. with a harmonica workshop!

·         Homestead Days: June 22-24 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. – Three days of traditional homesteading arts, crafts, farming demonstrations, music, special guest presenters and more!  

·         The Campfire Programs: Saturday evening’s 7:00 p.m. beginning in July continuing through August 28 - Bringing beloved musical talent and historical speakers to the monument on Saturdays in July and August.

·         Labor Day Weekend: September 1-3, 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. – The first weekend in September will feature Living History Activities on Saturday, the Homestead Era Car Show on Sunday and the 9th annual Freeman School Spelling Bee on Monday.

·         Howling Homestead: Saturday 27, 6:00 p.m.  - Have a howling good time in October through entertaining and intriguing activities, like learning about bats, snakes, raptors and predators. Please dress warm for this outdoor event.

·         The Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures: November 25 through December 31 - Homestead National Monument of America will again showcase cultural traditions from a wide number of ethnicities, all of whom were represented by homesteaders.

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska and 45 miles south of Lincoln. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free of charge.
