Event Parking

To make the experience the best that it can be for visitors parking will be at the Gage County Fairgrounds in Beatrice, Nebraska. Shuttle buses will transport visitors to and from the Homestead National Monument beginning at 9:00 a.m. and will run until the end of the commemoration events. A limited number of handicapped spots will be available at Heritage Center at Homestead National Monument of America. Gage County Fairgrounds are located two blocks south on Logan Street off West Court in Beatrice.

150th Commemorative Coin

The first one thousand visitors will recieve a 150th Commemorative Coin!

9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Homestead Education Center open
9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Homestead Heritage Center & Homestead Act Exhibit open
4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. President Lincoln's Legacies
: A Panel Presentation on the
Homestead Act, the Morrill Act and USDA - Homestead Education Center
6 p.m. - 8 p.m. National Signature Event Commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the Homestead Act - Homestead Heritage Center Stage

This event will include:

Presentation of the Colors by the Commanding General's Mounted Color Guard Fort Riley,Kansas

The National Anthem by the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band ~ Brass in Blue

Procession of 30 State Flags by Homesteader descendants or Volunteers

An American Indian Blessing

Opening Remarks

Vignettes by "Free Land? 1862 and the Shaping of Modern America" Chautauqua Characters

Poetry Readings

Special Presenters

Closing Remarks by the Last Women Homesteader

Special Music by Atz Kilcher, Son of Alaska homesteaders


8 p.m. - 9 p.m. Concert by the U.S. Air Force Heartland of America Band ~ Brass in Blue
