Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska. Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free.
Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures
Displays throughout Homestead National Monument of America
Programs begin at 2:00 PM Sunday on November 26, December 3 and December 10.
These sparkling holiday displays showcase ethnic traditions of the people who came to places like Nebraska so they could file Homestead Claims and become landowning citizens of the United States. These holiday displays which include trees, ornaments, traditions and other festive decorations will be at both the Homestead Education and Heritage Centers. Cultures represented include Czech, French, German, Jewish, Hispanic, Irish, Polish, Scottish, Swedish, and Welsh.
New this year is a special exhibition titled “Santas of Many Countries”. These santas represent different cultures and countries and will be on display at the Education Center along with the Trees of different cultures display. Through the Friends of Homestead, Bob and Loraine Mares, from Wilbur, Nebraska developed this display to showcase their more than 20 years of seriously collecting holiday ornaments and trees. Special programs will be presented in addition to the displays, these special presentations will be on November 26, and 10, 2017.
