Event is very weather dependent. Potential participants should check local area weather forecasts as to expected viewing conditions. Last minute postponement is possible and will be made public through the Hopewell Furnace NHS website, Facebook page and the ChesMont Astronomical Society.
The program will feature speakers, astronomy presentations, and activities for kids. Public viewing of the wonders of the Milky Way will be available through amateur and high-end telescopes.
5:30 p.m. Telescope set-up and solar observing.
6:00 p.m. Kids Corner educational activities.
7:00 p.m. Opening Remarks: President of Chesmont Astronomical Society (CAS), Josh Wright will talk about the evening's activities and a little history of the CAS and StarFest
7:15 p.m. Special Guest: Peter Detterline - Peter will share his experience of The Great American Eclipse of 2017
7:45 p.m. Keynote Speaker: Stephen Leete, Mission Systems Engineer, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center
Topic: Gravitational Waves - the ripples in the fabric of space-time caused by some of the most violent and energetic processes in the Universe.
8:30 p.m. Observing begins
8:30 - 11:00p.m. Door Prize awards and Drawing of the Grand Prize Winner.
