The purpose of Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site is to preserve and interpret iron plantation life and operations, and to enhance public understanding of the American evolution of American iron-making and its impact on the region and the nation.

Hopewell Furnace NHS is the most complete, extant iron plantation illustrating over 100 years of American iron manufacturing, spanning charcoal fueled, bloomery technology through anthracite-fueled, hot blast technology.

Hopewell Furnace NHS provides an unparalleled opportunity to enhance public understanding of American iron-making from the American Revolution to the rise of the steel industry.

Hopewell Furnace NHS historic, cultural and natural resources – including its extensive archives and collections – provide a unique and authentic stage illustrating the evolution of iron and iron-making, and its impact on the environment, economy, industry, society, and ultimately on contemporary America.
