Introduction

The National Park Service is establishing a management framework to allow the gathering and removal of plants or plant parts by enrolled members of federally recognized Indian tribes for traditional purposes.

Public Guidance

The NPS Plant Gathering Regulation authorizes the gathering of plants or plant parts by enrolled members of federally recognized tribes in accordance with a plant gathering agreement and NPS permit. The Tribal Leaders Guide to the National Park Service Plant Gathering Regulation (pdf 150 KB) provides tribal leaders information on the steps to initiate a plant gathering agreement and the requirements of a plant gathering agreement.
