HDP Summer Employment:
Application Procedure for Architects & Landscape Architects

Summer Employment Poster

Architects and Landscape Architects measure buildings, landscapes, industrial structures, sites, and objects, including floating vessels, to produce existing-conditions drawings in CAD, including drawings that interpret and explain industrial processes and engineering works. Applicants must be graduate students, or undergraduate students who will have completed three years of course work by the beginning of summer 2022. Recent graduates (degree awarded December 2020 or later) may also apply. Course work in an accredited design major is strongly recommended.


Application materials:

  • NCPE application form (pdf)
  • CAD form (pdf)
  • Transcript (unofficial transcripts are acceptable)
  • Letter of recommendation from a faculty member or recent employer
  • Portfolio (see the following two sections for guidance)

The portfolio will be used to assess the following three skills:

  • Hand lettering
  • Freehand sketching
  • Precision computer-aided drafting ability

Portfolio (work sample) guidelines:

  • All work sample submissions must be in hard copy. Digital files will not receive consideration.
  • Full-size reproductions are strongly recommended. All items must be folded to no larger than 9" x 12" size. Do not submit rolled drawings in tubes. Items may be bound or unbound.
  • Write your name on each work sample, and label each submission as to technique (e.g., freehand pencil sketch, AutoCAD 2019 drawing, etc.).
  • Do not submit originals. Portfolios will not be returned.


How to apply:

  • Submit your application directly to Heritage Documentation Programs.
  • The NCPE application form, CAD form, transcript, and letter of recommendation may be submitted either in hard copy or digitally (in PDF format). Email digital submissions to Write "2022 Summer Application" in the subject line.
  • Hard copy submissions, including the portfolio, should be sent to the address below. The portfolio must be postmarked by the application deadline.
