Exploring Sulphur Banks & Crater Rim Trail
This monthly program normally held on second Sundays is aimed at bringing together the members of the Friends of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park to share in the park's beautiful trails. This month due to a scheduling conflict, Sunday's walk is on the third Sunday.
Led by Ab Valencia, this month's walk will explore the Sulpher Banks and Crater Rim Trail. We will start at the Kīlauea Visitor Center and follow the trail past Sulphur Banks, cross Crater Rim Drive, and then hook up to the Crater Rim Trail. From here we follow the Crater Rim Trail back to the Kīlauea Visitor Center. This easy walk is mostly on flat and level ground. Be prepared for variable weather conditions, including sunny, windy, chilly, and/or rainy.
Participants provide their own transportation to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. From Highway 11, between mile markers 28 and 29, turn into Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park (entrance fees apply). After going through the park's entrance stations, take the first right into the parking area, and we will meet in front of the Kīlauea Visitor Center at 9:45 am.
To register, contact Friends of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park at (808) 985-7373, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or directly on our website.
This event is presented by the Friends of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Program cost is FREE for Friends members. Non-members are welcome to join the Friends in order to attend. Park entrance fees apply.
