Meet Volunteer Mequette
Mequette is a five month term volunteer at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park from Salt Lake City, Utah.
Here are her responses to three interview questions.
What compelling life experiences bring you to this point in time to volunteer at the park?
"I have had a passion for volcanoes since I was very young. It has been a dream of mine for many years to work with the National Park Service at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. I graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Geology in 2013. Since then, I have tried very hard to make it to this point and I couldn't be more happy."
Why did you choose to volunteer at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park?
"Again, I have wanted to educate myself and visitors about the volcanoes of Hawai‘i since I was in the 7th grade. I am also fascinated with the culture of the Hawaiian Islands and I am so lucky to have this opportunity."
What do you hope to bring to the park as well as leave with?
"I hope to preserve and protect the cultural and natural resources of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. I hope to leave here with a better understanding and deep appreciation for everything Hawai‘i has to offer."
