Inventory & Monitoring Program

Pacific Island Network

The Pacific Island Network (PACN) is one of 32 National Park Service Inventory & Monitoring networks of national parks linked by geography and shared natural resource characteristics. These networks were established to:

  • Conduct Baseline Inventories
  • Monitor long-term ecosystem status and trends
  • Provide decision support to apply field data in identifying management alternatives
  • Establish natural resource preservation and protection as an integral part of park management (products)
  • Cooperate with other federal and state agencies to share resources, achieve common goals, and avoid unnecessary duplication of effort and expense

For more info, see NPS-75: Natural Resource Inventory and Monitoring Guidelines (pdf).
