Summer 2011 Dog Canyon Ranger Days and Extended
Headquarters (Pine Springs) Visitor Center Evening
(Pine Springs, TX) Acting Superintendent Fred Armstrong announced that the Headquarters Visitor Center at Pine Springs will begin extended evening hours beginning on Friday, May 27. The visitor center will be open from 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM. The extended hours will take place through Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2011. The park is also announced a special Dog Canyon Ranger Days, featuring ranger-led hikes, evening programs. Said Armstrong, "As summer begins we are keeping the visitor center open later to accommodate visitors who are travelling to the park. We are also very excited to offer the new Dog Canyon Ranger Days programs, which will highlight the wonderful natural features and history of the north side of the park, to visitors to Dog Canyon."
Dog Canyon Ranger Days is a new program, which will take place throughout the summer beginning Saturday, June 4, and continuing on Saturdays, June 18, July 2 (Independence Day Weekend), 16, 30, August 13, 27 and September 3 (Labor Day Weekend) . Park rangers will lead hikes and present evening programs at the Dog Canyon Campground. Visitors will be able to spend time with a park ranger at the Dog Canyon Visitor Contact Station from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Meet the ranger at the Dog Canyon Visitor Contact Station at 2:00 PM for a ranger led hike on the Lost Peak Trail or the Indian Meadows Trail and join the ranger at the Dog Canyon Campground for an evening program from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM.
From Carlsbad, NM, go northwest on US Highway 285 for 12 miles (19 Km), then take NM State Road 137 southwest for 50 miles (81 Km) through the Lincoln National Forest and the town of Queen, NM to Dog Canyon.

The Pine Springs Visitor Center is open daily (except for Christmas) from 8:00 AM until 4:30 PM. The Dog Canyon Visitor Contact Station is staffed intermittently, and may be reached at (575) 981-2418. Motorists traveling past the park along Texas Highway 62/180 may tune in to the park's Traveler's Information Station radio broadcast at 1560 AM for up-to-date park information.
