Seashore Plans Prescribed Burns for the Naval Live Oaks Area
Gulf Breeze, FL – Gulf Islands National Seashore officials plan to conduct controlled burns within the Naval Live Oaks Area near Gulf Breeze, Florida tomorrow February 17, 2017. Controlled burns are weather dependent. Longleaf pine areas of Naval Live Oaks depend on regular fire to maintain this ecosystem type, which is important for gopher tortoises and many other species.

Perdido Key Area Hike-In/Drive-In Primitive Camping Temporarily Suspended
Gulf Islands National Seashore have temporarily suspended hike-in/drive-in primitive camping at the Perdido Key Area. The suspension is effective immediately. During the closure, the park will explore management alternatives to address significant resource impacts.

National Seashore Recruiting Volunteers to Study Night Skies
Gulf Islands National Seashore is seeking interested volunteers who want to help nesting sea turtles by participating in a study to learn more about how man-made light impacts these gentle giants. An informational session will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 6:00 pm in the Park Headquarters Auditorium at the Naval Live Oaks Area (1801 Gulf Breeze Parkway, Gulf Breeze, FL 32563). Volunteer positions are open to the public.

Ocean Springs, MS – Gulf Islands National Seashore announces the February ranger programs schedule. All programs are free and are subject to change without notification. For additional information, contact the William M. Colmer Visitor Center at Davis Bayou at (228) 230-4100. Park offices will be closed on February 20, 2017.

Gulf Breeze, FL – Gulf Islands National Seashore announces the February ranger programs schedule. All programs are free and are subject to change without notification. For additional information, contact the national seashore at (850) 934-2600. There is an entrance fee to the Fort Pickens and Fort Barrancas. Park offices will be closed on February 20, 2017.

National Seashore to Host African American History Month Event
Gulf Islands National Seashore officials announced special programming in celebration of African American History Month. Special programs will be held at the William M. Colmer Visitor Center at Davis Bayou from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Programs will explore the African American experience during the American Civil War.
