Gulf Breeze, Fla. - Gulf Islands National Seashore officials announce the closure of Johnson Beach Road beyond the Johnson Beach parking lot and the Star Pavilion parking lot on Thursday and Friday, May 4 & 5, 2017. The closures will enable park maintenance crews to clear sand from the roadway and parking areas that accumulated after Sunday evening’s wind event and anticipated accumulation caused by forecasted storms this evening.
The roadway and parking areas will reopen as soon as work is completed. Visitors can monitor the parks temporary closure page https://www.nps.gov/guis/planyourvisit/tempclosures.htm, call the road hotline (850) 934-2656, or follow the park on Twitter (@GulfIslands_NPS) for updates on road status. Fort Pickens Road is scheduled to remain open, but may be closed if conditions warrant.
