Traveling Trunks

Prepare your students for their field trip, or supplement class activities, with a travel trunk! These travel trunks are fun hands on experiences that will teach you and your students about the soldiers and different military or Colonial America topics. Each travel trunk coordinates with North Carolina and Guilford County Schools curriculum. Teachers can pick up these trunks at the Visitors Center, but must call ahead to the Education Coordinator Stephen Ware at [phone] ext. 226. Look below for descriptions of the travel trunks.

The following travel trunk is available:

• American Soldiers of the Battle of Guilford Courthouse - students will explore the difference between a Continental soldier and a militiaman using primary source paintings and a letter, vocabulary, reproduction uniforms and accoutrements. This trunk also includes two books to be used as a supplment for class reading. The intended audience is 4th - 5th grade.
