Want to teach students about the American Revolution, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, and colonial North Carolina? Need experience as an education or history major, or are you a former teacher or docent? We want your help to inspire 4th graders to connect with their local history!
Guilford Courthouse National Military Park received the Every Kid in a Park Travel Grant 2017-2018 which will pay for the transportation of twenty Title I schools (4th grade). The grant also includes a mandatory ranger pre-visit that will prepare the students with concepts about the American Revolution, primary sources, and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.
We need docents to assist rangers with the tour and are looking for dedicated individuals who can volunteer for at least two tours a month. Many of these tours last for three hours. The tours are designed to take students across the battlefield, the Hoskins Farm, and the Visitor Center.
You may apply for the Volunteer Docent position on Volunteer.gov. Ranger Rebecca Lowe will follow up to your application with a request for a resume and references.
