While the eclipse will be visible throughout the park with varying length of totality, the park has designated a roadside viewing area and four Official Eclipse Viewing Areas. The viewing areas include along the Gros Ventre Road, Gros Ventre Campground Amphitheater, Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center, Jackson Lake Lodge, and Colter Bay. At Official Eclipse Viewing Areas park staff will provide telescopes and interpretive programs. Eclipse glasses will be available for purchase until they run out. If possible, purchase glasses before heading to the park. Be prepared: pack in food, water, sunscreen, and any other necessary items as little to no infrastructure exists at most locations. Gros Ventre Road The Gros Ventre Road will be the largest eclipse viewing area in the park and is on the centerline of the eclipse. The road will be one-way traffic eastbound from the junction with US Hwy 26/89/191 to the community of Kelly, and parking will be allowed in the westbound lane. Gros Ventre Campground Amphitheater The Gros Ventre Campground Amphitheater is located in the Gros Ventre Campground and is along the centerline of the eclipse. Darkranger Kevin Poe, astronomers, and park rangers will be presenting interpretive programs and have telescopes throughout the eclipse. Campers at Gros Ventre Campground, visitors who park along the Gros Ventre Road, or bicyclists/hikers are welcome to join the programs at the amphitheater. Totality will last for 2 minutes and 19 seconds at Gros Ventre. Parking passes are required for the limited parking available at the Gros Ventre Campground Amphitheater. No oversized vehicles including RVs, buses, or trailers. Passes for the 100 parking spaces at the amphitheater, including accessible passes, will be distributed on Saturday, August 19 starting at 8:00 am from the Craig Thomas Discovery Visitor Center in Moose, WY and the Colter Bay Visitor Center. Craig Thomas Visitor and Discovery Center The Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center in Moose, WY is located just north of the center of the eclipse path. Totality will last for 2 minutes and 19 seconds in Moose. The viewing area will be in the west end of the visitor center parking lot. Park rangers will be presenting interpretive programs and have telescopes during the eclipse Parking is limited, park in designated areas only. Jackson Lake Lodge The Jackson Lake Lodge is located north of Jackson Lake Junction with expansive views of the range, valley, and Jackson Lake. Astronomers and park rangers will be presenting interpretive programs and have telescopes during the eclipse. Totality will last 1 minute and 50 seconds at the lodge. The viewing area is outside the lodge on the south end of the terrace. Colter Bay Visitor Center The Colter Bay Visitor Center is the northernmost visitor center in the park located along the shore of Jackson Lake. The viewing area will be located along the lake shore behind the visitor center. Park rangers will be presenting interpretive programs and have telescopes during the eclipse. Totality will last for 1 minute and 47 seconds at Colter Bay. |
