Got ideas on what you'd like to study with your class at Great Sand Dunes? You are free to conduct your own lessons and guided hikes during your visit.
The Great Sand Dunes Online Curriculum is full of ideas for pre- and post-trip lessons you can do in the classroom and also activities for your onsite visit to the park.
Keep in mind that you are teaching in a national park and that means you may not collect or alter natural features of the park (i.e. sand, plants, flowers, rocks, artifacts, etc.)
The Visitor Center includes interactive displays as well as a 20-minute film and auditorium.
The Junior Ranger program is another self-guided option for exploring and learning about the park. The booklets are available for 50 cents each and people who complete the booklet are awarded either a badge or patch.
For more information on self-guided field trips, email the Education Ranger or call 719-378-6344.
