Golden Spike National Historic Site Seeks Public Input on Proposed Entrance Fee Increases

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comment on a proposal to raise entrance fees at several units, including Golden Spike National Historic Site.

The fee increase proposal at Golden Spike is part of a larger NPS initiative that began in 2015, to standardize fees for park units throughout the United States that offer similar visitor services and experiences. Based on comments received in 2015, there were no changes made to the fees at Golden Spike at that time.

If the increases are implemented as currently being proposed, the changes to entrance fees at Golden Spike National Historic Site would go into effect on or about May 1, 2018, and would be as follows:

Type of Entrance Fee Current Fee Proposed Fee
Private Vehicle  $5 (winter)
$7 (summer)
$15 (year-round)
Motorcycle $5 (winter)
$7 (summer)
$10 (year-round)
Individual
(arriving on foot or by bicycle)
$3 (winter)
$4 (winter)
$7 (year-round)
Annual Pass $15 $30

The new revenue generated from any future fee increases may be used to provide enhanced
visitor services including repair and maintenance of facilities, capital improvements, updated
amenities, resource protection, and additional visitor programs and services.

Entrance fees are valid for up to seven days at Golden Spike National Historic Site only. The
annual pass is valid for one year through the month of purchase and admits one (1) private, non-commercial vehicle, or the pass holder if arriving on foot, bicycle, or motorcycle.

Entrance fees are not charged to persons under 16 years of age or to holders of the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Annual, Senior, Access, or Military passes. There are currently 10 days throughout the calendar year that all fees are waived for all visitors to Golden Spike.

Golden Spike National Historic Site requests your comments regarding the fee increase proposal as described above, and/or other ideas for changes to the current fee structure. Comments may be submitted by email to GOSP_Planning@nps.gov (subject line: “Fee Increase Proposal”). You may also mail comments to Golden Spike National Historic Site, Attention: Fee Increase Proposal, P.O. Box 897, Brigham City, UT, 84302, or fax them to (435) 471 -2341, Attention: Fee Increase Proposal. Deadline for submitting comments is January 10, 2018.

As in 2015, public comments will again be analyzed and used to help determine how, or if, fee increases will be implemented.
