"Head for the Headlands Open House" Celebrates the National Park Service Centennial


MARIN COUNTY, CA –The Marin Headlands hosts the Head for the Headlands Open House this weekend in honor of the National Park Service Centennial.

Enjoy special programming and food trucks from 10AM to 4PM on Saturday, August 6 and Sunday, August 7. The Marin Headlands Visitor Center will serve as the hub for the open house and will offer schedules of the weekend's special events.

The open house includes special tours of the Marine Mammal Center, Presidio Stables, and Point Bonita YMCA, as well as extended hours at the Nike Missile Site and Battery Townsley.

Both first-time and long-time visitors to the Marin Headlands can use the new Golden Gate National Recreation Area app (available for the iPhone) to make new discoveries. The app includes a guided walking tour of Rodeo Lagoon and a responsive map with photos and historic information about park resources.

The Marin Headlands is situated just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, off the Alexander Avenue exit. Parking within the Headlands is limited;visitors are advised to take public transportation or utilize the inter-park shuttle. The Muni 76X services the Marin Headlands on weekends and holidays.
