The Planning Division helps guide management and preservation of GGNRA’s varied resources and helps provide opportunities for the public to enjoy the park. Division staff is responsible for preparing, updating, and implementing plans and projects in close collaboration with staff of other park divisions and the Superintendent’s Office. The team of planners, environmental protection specialists, and liaisons to nearby communities also facilitates public involvement in various stages of park projects and decision-making processes. They play myriad roles at GGNRA, including co-managing projects with partners at the Parks Conservancy, designing and reviewing alternative transportation projects, and reviewing proposed projects for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other federal laws, regulations, and policies. Staff also coordinates with local governments and agencies on their projects to accomplish shared goals and to avoid, minimize, and/or mitigate adverse impacts on park resources and values. Division staff also participates in special park teams, task forces, and committees, as directed by the Superintendent.
