The Golden Gate National Recreation Area proposes to implement a Trails Forever Program to provide for ongoing planning, design, construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of the 60 miles of heavily used and actively maintained trails within the park. Trails will be American Disability Act compliant insofar as possible. The program will pattern after the recently created Trails Forever program at Acadia National Park and a portion of it will be funded by Recreation Fees.
Recreation Fee Funded Trail Projects
Future trail projects will include restoring habitat for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers at Fort Baker, replacing fencing along trails in Muir Woods National Monument and reconstructing trails a the Phlegler Estate. The Phleger Estate contains 1250 acres of redwood trees amid mixed evergreen woodlands and provides habitat for scores of wildlife species.
